NOT SO STUPID QUESTIONS

Roofing is complicated, confusing and filled with tons of questions; NONE of them are stupid.

If you're just getting started and "don't know what you don't know", this is a great place to start.  Still need answers?  Give us a call - We're here to help.

HOW IS WEATHERWELD DIFFERENT FROM OTHER ROOFS?

WeatherWeld is a seamless roofing system that eliminates the weak points found in traditional roofing systems, such as seams and multiple layers. Our system uses water-carried asphalt emulsion and fiberglass reinforcement to create a continuous, durable membrane across the entire roof. WeatherWeld roofing systems are designed to last and are backed by a 40 year No Dollar Limit (NDL) Warranty. The result is a roof that's stronger, more flexible, and more durable than traditional options like single ply, coatings, Built-Up Roofing (BUR) or Modified Bitumen.

WHAT IS A WEATHERWELD ROOF MADE OF?

WeatherWeld utilizes only high-quality materials to ensure the superior performance of our seamless roofing system, including:
  • Ceramic Asphalt Emulsion: A specially formulated water carried asphalt combined with ceramic clay that serves as the primary waterproofing component. The emulsion is environmentally friendly and provides exceptional waterproofing and weathering performance.
  • Fiberglass Reinforcement: High strength Intertwined fiberglass is used to reinforce the membrane, creating unbeatable strength and durability.
  • Seamless Application: The raw materials become part of the WeatherWeld system when applied with the Handheld 3D Roof Printer, ensuring consistent application and optimal performance.
  • Energy Efficient Coatings (Optional): For clients opting for reflective coatings, premium acrylic and aluminum coatings may be installed to enhance energy efficiency by reflecting sunlight and reducing heat absorption.

IS WEATHERWELD SUITABLE FOR MY ROOF?

  • Ideal Roofs: Roofs with less than a 3” per foot slope are best suited for WeatherWeld applications.
  • Existing Roof Conditions: Can be applied over most existing roofing materials, provided they are in suitable condition and free of moisture.
  • Limitations: Steep-sloped roofs (Greater than 3” per foot) may not be ideal for WeatherWeld installation due to the nature of the application process.

WHAT TYPES OF ROOFING DOES WEATHERWELD PROVIDE?

WeatherWeld offers two main types of low-slope roof systems that cater to different needs:
A.) Seamless Roof Encapsulation
  • Roof Encapsulation is the process of adhering a WeatherWeld roof to the current roofing layer.  This is an ideal solution when no moisture is present in the existing roof.
  • Suitable Roofs: Existing roofs with one roof layer, such as built-up roofing, gravel roofs, or uncoated metal roofs.
  • Benefits: Eliminates the cost and disruption associated with roof tear-offs while creating a watertight membrane designed to last for generations.
B.) Roof Replacement Systems
  • Roof Replacement is for roofs requiring more extensive work, such as those with multiple layers, or problematic surfaces like foam, silicone or PVC.
  • Process: Remove the existing roof, install insulation (Where Required), Base Sheet and WeatherWeld membrane. Optional reflective coatings can be added for enhanced energy efficiency or as required by code.
  • Benefits: Provides a comprehensive assessment of the structural integrity of the building and provides for the addition of insulation above the roof deck.

WHAT MAINTENANCE IS REQUIRED ON WEATHERWELD ROOFS?

WeatherWeld roofs require minimal maintenance due to their seamless design:
  • Routine Inspections: Once or twice a year, especially after severe weather.
  • Debris Removal: Clean drains, gutters, and roof surfaces to prevent water back-ups.
  • Wear Checks: Inspect high-traffic areas or roof penetrations and perform simple touch-ups if needed.
  • Ease of Repairs: Any necessary repairs can be made quickly; without specialized tools or contractors.
  • Contact Us: A WeatherWeld Rep would be glad to inspect your roof, simply call us.

IS WEATHERWELD ENVIRONMENTALLY FRIENDLY?

  • Eco-Friendly Materials: WeatherWeld uses water-carried materials, which are low in volatile organic compounds (VOCs) and free of harmful chemicals.
  • Longevity: The extended lifespan reduces roofing waste in landfills.
  • Energy Efficiency: Optional reflective coatings can improve energy efficiency, contributing to lower carbon emissions.
  • LEED Credit: Installing WeatherWeld may contribute to LEED (Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design) credits for sustainable building practices.

HOW IS WEATHERWELD INSTALLED? WHAT IS THE TIMELINE FOR INSTALLATION?

  • Installation Process: WeatherWeld is applied using the WeatherWeld 3D roof printer, which sprays the seamless membrane directly onto the roof surface. The process involves preparing the existing roof (cleaning and repairs if necessary), applying the WeatherWeld materials, and allowing the membrane to cure.
  • Timeline: The installation timeline varies depending on the size and condition of the roof but is generally faster than traditional roofing methods due to the efficiency of the 3D roof printer. We provide a detailed project schedule after assessing your specific needs.

WHAT IS THE COST COMPARISON BETWEEN WEATHERWELD AND OTHER ROOFS?

  • Value Proposition: Over the lifespan of the building, WeatherWeld often proves to be more cost-effective due to reduced maintenance and replacement expenses.
  • Long-Term Savings: Lower maintenance costs due to the durability and minimal requirements of maintaining the seamless membrane.
  • Replacement Costs:
Eliminated, as WeatherWeld is designed to last the lifetime of the building.
  • Energy Savings: Optional reflective coatings can reduce cooling costs.

WHAT DOES THE 40-YEAR NO DOLLAR LIMIT (NDL) WARRANTY COVER?

  • Comprehensive Coverage: The warranty provides coverage against roof leaks, material defects and workmanship issues for 40 years.
  • No Dollar Limit: There is no monetary cap on the repair costs covered under the warranty.
  • Transferability: The warranty can be transferred to new building owners, adding value to your property.
  • Exclusions: Excludes damage from natural disasters, intentional misuse, or alterations made without WeatherWeld's approval.

HOW DOES WEATHERWELD HANDLE PONDING WATER?

While ponding water on a roof is generally undesirable and should be addressed, we recognize that most flat roofs experience some degree of minor ponding due to building settling or other structural factors. WeatherWeld is engineered to handle minor ponding water without compromising the roof's integrity.
  • Membrane Design: WeatherWeld's 1/4-inch thick seamless membrane remains fully intact in areas where minor ponding occurs.
  • Warranty Coverage: Minor ponding due to building settling is not specifically disclaimed in the exclusions of WeatherWeld's warranty.

Recommendation: We always recommend—and it may be required by law—to eliminate or drastically reduce ponding water where possible to ensure optimal roof performance and longevity. Ponding water can lead to long-term issues with any roofing system. Proper drainage is always the best practice to ensure the longevity of your roof.

WHAT DOES "THE LIFETIME OF THE BUILDING" MEAN?

When WeatherWeld refers to the "lifetime of the building," it means:
  • Longevity: The WeatherWeld roofing system is designed to last as long as the building itself.
  • Reinforcement Without Removal:
Unlike traditional systems requiring full replacements every 15-20 years, WeatherWeld can be reinforced without removal.
  • Final Roofing Solution: Effectively making it the last roofing system your building will ever need.
